Fundraising Advice from My Mom

How often do you invite fundraising advice and input from people you trust to really tell you the truth? And more importantly how often do you overlook or ignore great advice?

I received this feedback from my Mom, who is in her late 70s but surfs the internet like a thirty-year-old. Here’s what she had to say:

“After reading some of your Withism’s I thought long and hard about how I feel about being approached by different organizations. I thought I would share with you one of my biggest “turn offs.” I don’t like when organization send me stuff like tablets, calendars, personal name stickers, etc. and expect me to contribute because they sent me these things. I don’t know what to do with it but to keep the merchandise they send me as I am not going to send it all back. Some food for thought here on what not to do.

While her advice is specific for her, it had me thinking about how many people in your database might be willing to give you feedback on that fall appeal or the event invitation language to help you make it more compelling.

If you truly feel like you don’t have anyone in your database you trust to tell you the truth, I’m sure my Mom would be willing to help!
